How to Create a World Traveler Internship Application Video Without a Camera

Comment on this PostIt’s now February 23 and you’ve got about one week to finish your World Traveler Internship application.
Many of you have finished every aspect of your application EXCEPT your video. Remember, your application to become a World Traveler Intern is not complete without a video. SO GET FILMING.
But how can you create a video if you don’t own a camera?
Here are a few ideas on how to complete your World Traveler Internship application without a camera:
1. Borrow a Camera – If you don’t have your own camera, snag a friend’s iPhone or Flip camera. If you’re a student, visit your school’s Library, Journalism School or Film School and ask if you can use their camera or lab set-up to record your video.
2. Create a Photo Montage – If you’ve got a Mac, check out iPhoto to create a nice video montage of your travel pics. If you want to try something a little different or don’t have a Mac, check out Animoto.com, where you can upload your favorite photos and put them to music to create a great video.
3. Visit an Apple Store – Steal a page from iJustine and shoot a short application video in the Apple Store using a Webcam on one of the Macs.
4. Stop-Motion Photography – If you’re a good photographer, consider trying your hand at stop-motion photography to create a short video. Just use a site like Animoto.com to put all of your photos together and upload the resulting video to YouTube.
5. Create a PowerPoint – Create a PowerPoint presentation and use tools available on the Internet, search “powerpoint to youtube,” to convert it to a format accepted by YouTube.
None of these work for you? Then great creative – we’re sending two people on a trip around the world. It’s probably worth the extra effort.
Remember – the application deadline is March 2, so get your video done and submitted so you don’t miss your chance to travel the world on STA Travel’s dime.
Your World Traveler Internship Questions Answered

Since we launched the World Traveler Internship on January 26, we’ve had a tremendous response. More than 5,300 potential Interns have started their application on worldtravelerinternship.com and we’re already seeing a number of great application videos rolling in.
With the great response, there have been a lot of questions, so here are the answers to some frequently asked questions.
1. Does voting count towards who is selected?
We’ll use Heather Anderson and Travon Epps as examples since they were some of the first to finish their profiles. Heather has 612 votes on her profile. Travon has 2195. Does this mean Travon is more likely to be selected? In short - No. The votes determine who is featured on the homepage of worldtravelerinternship.com under Popular Applicants. The judges do consider this in their final decision because STA obviously wants popular World Traveler Interns, but it doesn’t make up a significant portion of the selection criteria.
2. Should I upload a placeholder video before I upload my final application video?
If there is a video in your profile and you submit your profile as complete, the judges will consider that your final video. If you’re application is great with your final video, but is only completed on the last day applications are accepted, that is perfectly fine. We do however encourage you to get your video done ASAP so you can share the link to your profile with your friends to gain support.
3. Do I have to be 18 when I apply?
No, but you must be 18 when you would being traveling – June 1 – as a World Traveler Intern.
4. Can I be 26 when I apply, but older when I travel?
No, you must be at least 18-years-old when the World Traveler Internship commences (June 1) and no older than 26.
5. Will I be disqualified if my video runs more than three minutes?
You will not be disqualified if your video is more than three minutes. However, it is tough to keep the Judges’ attention for that long so the entire video must be compelling.
6. Can I apply if I am Canadian?
Sorry, but the Internship is only available to those with a valid U.S. Passport.
7. Can I apply if I am living overseas, but am a U.S. citizen?
Yes. As long as you have a valid U.S. Passport you can apply.

Comment on this PostIn just six days after the launch of the initial application period for the World Traveler Internship, more than 4,300 people have created their application profile on worldtravelerinternship.com. The response has simply been amazing and you still have a month left to apply!
We knew the itinerary would blow you guys away, but this response is beyond what we expected and we’re really excited to see some of the videos you guys are creating.
Remember – to complete your application, you have to submit your application video as a video response to the original 2010 World Traveler Internship video on YouTube. Your application is not complete until you submit your application on worldtravelerinternship.com and submit your video as a video response on YouTube.
Also, applications must be complete by March 2. No exceptions will be made!
