Comment on this PostDrink, Drank, Drunk. Still feeling the effects of spring break? No? Then I guess It’s time for some interesting alcohol facts from around the globe:
1) The word “toast,” which means wishing good health originated in ancient Rome. A piece of toasted bread was literally dropped into wine back then.
2) The soil of one of the vineyards in France is considered so precious that it is mandatory for workers to scrape the soil
off their shoes before they leave.
3) Here is a little surprise (especially with our weak ranking): The national anthem of United States “The Star Spangled Banner,” was written to the tune of a drinking song.
4) The pressure in a champagne bottle is 90 pounds per square inch: three times the pressure in automobile tires.
5) Adolf Hitler was one of the world’s best known abstainers from alcohol.
6) The longest permanent bar is 405 feet and 10 inches is located in Ohio. Although, some suggest that the longest bar is in Illinois, which is 684 feet… Google it. I think it’s a myth.
7) The world’s oldest known recipe is for beer.
8) It is illegal to feed alcohol to moose in Alaska and fish in Ohio.

10) Texas state law prohibits taking more than three sips of beer at a time while standing. Does this count?

Posted on March 15, 2009 by David Goodlin - Online Marketing Coordinator
Comment on this PostChug-a-lug people. St. Pat’s day is almost here so you know what that means? Green beer, embarrassing photos, thrown worshiping and that artistic way of speaking English known as the belligerent slur. Which countries around the world pound the most creative juice each year?
According to an international survey, Luxembourg easily takes the cake for the most alcohol consumed per capita in a year: 15.5 liters. Closely followed by France, Ireland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic who all clock in over 12 liters per person per year. Very impressive!
Let us give a round of applause, or shots, to the top 5 countries while we take a gander at the 15 followers:
6) Spain
7) Denmark
8) Portugal
9) United Kingdom
10) Austria
11) Switzerland
12) Belgium
13) Germany
14) Australia
15) Netherlands
16) Finland
17) South Korea
